From the moment you walk into this restaurant you feel that you going to have a very special experience. It is just charming! The restaurant is in a “hobbit” like house that offers a traditional ‘ole English Tea Room feel. The décor and feel of the restaurant is not to be missed. We had a very special meal and one that I hope others will enjoy.

Location:

It is located on Dolores St between Ocean and 7th Ave in Carmel-by-the-Sea. However, be watchful for the cute red and white striped awning. I am embarrassed to say that we walked past it twice before finding it. It is quite “tucked” into the street.

Décor:

The décor is definitely Old English Tea House. It is wonderful that the owners have honored the tradition of the history of this restaurant. It has been owned by many since its inception in the 1940’s, but it has been obviously loved and cared for all these years!

Menu:

The menu has a nice variety to choose from. I choose an omelet and scones with cream and marmalade. All were amazing and demonstrate the pride they take in preparing the food. You must order the scones just to try them!! We also treated ourselves to a glass of champagne with our tea and it was lovely.

Service:

The server was very sweet! She and the cook were the only ones there. It is a tiny place but they did an amazing job.

Restrooms:

It is a tiny restaurant so there is one small teeny tiny restroom…it is just cute.

Final Thoughts:

My thoughts are… I cannot wait to go back! A wonderful experience and one which I would recommend to everyone visiting Carmel-by-the-Sea. The atmosphere, food, and teas are to be experienced. This is a fantastic way to spend a lunch.
