Description:
Kooddoo Airport – tiny airport for flying to and from nearby Maldives islands. It is utilized by Maldivian Airlines for flying customers from the Male Airport in order to access various resorts. Resort staff pick up their guests for transfers by boat to other islands.
Location:
Located on the island of Kooddoo, Huvadhu Atoll, Gaaf Alif, Maldives. The only way to reach the island is by small plane or boat.
Interior:
This is a tiny airport and the terminal is housed in a small building. The bathrooms are limited and not well maintained. Currently (2016) renovations are being done to improve the building and airport grounds. There is limited amount of seating, but luckily the planes coming and going usually have a small passenger load. The plus is the airport does provide carts for your luggage and the room was clean with ceiling fans (it tends to be quite hot).
Security:
The security was one lane and is very efficient. They do take safety seriously and were thorough with checking people and luggage. I found this to be a plus.
Food/beverage options:
There is no food or beverage available in the airport.
Bathrooms:
There were two bathrooms located before and two after security. They were in need of repair and cleanliness was an issue.
Final Thoughts:
This is the airport available for those traveling to nearby islands and resorts in the Maldives . It has been open since 2012, and hopefully the amount of travelers will help fund a better airport in the future. For the time being, it serves its purpose. Be prepared that it can be uncomfortable. The good news is that it is usually a very short period of time that you will have to spend there.
The Kooddoo Airport rates an Always 5 Star: 2 stars 🌟🌟
