The Mandarin Oriental Washington DC is a hotel that grips you from the moment you walk into the lobby. You are met with stunningly high ceilings, beautiful marble floors, and front desk attendants ready to welcome you to the city.
A luxury hotel brand that was born more than 50 years ago, Mandarin Oriental quickly established itself as a leader in award-winning service to its customers. Their enviable reputation has survived the decades, translating to more than 32 hotels operated in 23 countries.
If you’re looking for a luxury experience at the Mandarin Oriental in Washington, DC, you won’t be disappointed. My stay in an Executive Suite, which came with upgraded access to The Club, was an experience I can’t stop talking about. If you want to get the most out of your Mandarin Oriental stay, utilize these following five Always5Star tips.
5StarTips🌟:
🌟 Tip 1: Choosing the Right Room
The key to the perfect stay is choosing the right room for your needs. Even the standard Deluxe room offers luxury amenities like high-speed internet, touch-pad controls, a spa-inspired bathroom, and possible waterfront views. I prefer to go with the upgraded Club room, which is situated on one of the top floors allowing for maximum privacy and views.
If you want to experience luxury like no other, select one of the suites. My time in the Executive Suite was one of my favorite stays. With a rain forest shower, king bed, living room, and the picturesque views of the city, I never wanted to leave the room.
🌟 Tip 2: Spa and Wellness Facilities
Whether you’re traveling for business or pleasure, take time to enjoy the hotel’s luxury amenities by taking advantage of the fitness amenities. The 1,400 square foot fitness center is fully appointed with free weights, cardio machines, cross trainers, stationary bikes and more. If you don’t feel like working out alone, you can join a class outdoors, like Tai Chi or yoga. I enjoy a relaxing dip in the heated indoor swimming pool.
I’m always searching for new ways to relax. The Mandarin’s spa facilities are world-class and offer soothing massage treatments, zen relaxation rooms, and a beauty suite. If you’re not looking for a treatment, you can soak in one of the spa’s vitality pools or spend some time in the steam room.
🌟 Tip 3: Upgrade to The Club
If you want to put an emphasis on the luxury aspects of this hotel, then you need to upgrade to The Club Lounge. Hidden on the eighth floor, this refined oasis is perfect for the guest like me who enjoys special amenities such as a nightly Asian-inspired menu paired with house wines and spirits. Throughout the day, club members can enjoy complimentary food and a dedicated guest relations team to make reservations and gain access to top attractions in the area.
Beyond a private club space to hang out in, upgrading comes with perks like access to private meeting rooms and late checkout. Guests get complimentary a one garment per day pressing during their stay and access to high-speed internet for up to six devices. If you want a truly luxurious stay, you can’t go wrong with upgrading to The Club Lounge.

🌟 Tip 4: Visit Nearby Attractions
The Mandarin is conveniently located in the heart of the city, within walking distance to famous attractions like the Washington Monument, the Capitol building, and the White House. If you want to experience some of the area’s famous museums, the Washington monument, National Museum of Air and Space, Holocaust Memorial Museum are just two blocks away. However, all the monuments are close by and can be enjoyed from the hotel’s location.
When I’m looking for something tasty to eat, I like to walk the footbridge over to District Wharf, home to some of the best seafood in the city. Try out highly-rated favorites like Del Mar on Wharf Street or Mi Vida in District Square.
If you visit when the cherry trees are blossoming (a must!), don’t miss a chance to walk past the Jefferson Memorial surrounded by the beautiful pink blooms.
🌟 Tip 5: Choose to Dine In
While it’s great to explore the city and find new places to eat, sometimes you want to relax at the hotel and spend a night in. Luckily, the Mandarin Oriental has three fabulous great dining options to choose from, the Amity & Commerce, Mini Sushi Bar, and the Empress Lounge. I loved enjoying the Empress Lounge each night of our stay. It is the perfect place for pre-dinner and after-dinner drinks, cocktails, and appetizers.
Amity & Commerce offers an all-day dining menu, it is a special American Bar & Bistro with an international twist.
5StarTip🌟: When it’s warm outside, request to be seated on the terrace overlooking the gardens and fire pits. Order a cocktail and relax in this beautiful setting overlooking the Tidal Basin!
