Restaurant Review: Sierra Mar Restaurant at Post Ranch Inn, Big Sur – California

We visit Big Sur at least once a year. We always make it a special treat by reserving a window seat (well in advance) to have lunch at this amazing location. This is a restaurant that must be experienced. The ambiance and views are unique. We are hooked and look forward to each visit!

When driving on Highway 1, it can be easily missed as the entrance and sign for the Inn are small. Look for the Ventana Inn entrance on the east side. It is on the opposite side of the highway. The restaurant is located on the top of the hill above the Post Ranch Inn Resort. You will park your car at the check in desk with the valet. You enter the lobby area and there is a wooden outdoor path and stairs that you will climb to get to the restaurant. If you have difficulty with the climb, they have golf carts that can drive you up the hill to the restaurant entrance.

Décor:

The décor is done brilliantly to emphasize the views. The sleek woods and interior design are meant to be the backdrop to the wall of windows that frame the Big Sur Coastline. All booths and tables are situated to maximize the benefit of the scenery.

Menu:

The menu was well designed and there were a number of interesting selections. We ordered from the pre-fixe lunch menu. It changes frequently. We have always enjoyed our selections when we have dined here. There is a very good selection of wines.

Service:

The service was very good. We felt our waiter was very attentive. We had a wonderful table and wanted to relax and enjoy our meal. Our waiter never rushed any our four courses and was observant of our needs. Excellent!

Atmosphere:

The atmosphere is casual and relaxed. The patrons were dressed from business to casual.

Restrooms:

The restrooms were clean and well maintained.

Final Thoughts:

The overall experience was an Always5Star experience! I would suggest coming during lunch or at sunset to maximize the views.

The best tables are right up against the glass windows. These prime tables are usually saved for the patrons of the hotel. However, if you time it right, there is availability during the early lunch or late lunch times.
