There are many wonderful luxury hotels to choose from in Killarney. I selected The Brehon hotel because of the TripAdvisor reviews and location to the convention center. The reviews were accurate and I found our room to be very comfortable. I could walk to the town center (around 20-30 minutes), and found the location ideal for visiting the Killarney National Park. Taxi access was convenient for getting around the park and town.

Upon entering The Brehon you are first impressed by the lobby area – a large area with plenty of comfortable couches. The interior design is upscale, yet lends an air of comfort and relaxation. The tall ceilings, with large expansive windows, allows for lots of light. The warm colors and the roaring fire add to the luxurious, cozy feel. 

I stayed in a Superior Deluxe room. It was spacious with two large windows with views of the countryside. All the rooms have their uniqueness and charm. Having seen several different types of rooms, they all had an appeal to me. 

A feature that is always appreciated in a hotel is a soaking tub. This room did not disappoint. The oversized tub was great for soaking in after a fabulous day in Killarney!

There was a separate shower as well in the room. I enjoy a shower head with a strong flow, and this one did not disappoint!

A sitting area, and closets with plush robes, was a nice addition to this room. The tea and coffee set up was also located in one of the cabinets. There was also a stool for using this area for makeup as well.

The sitting area in the room was a nice way to relax and catch up on a book. Also, a perfect place to sit and sip champagne while catching up on your reading!

When celebrating being in a luxury room and arriving in Ireland, I decided to order a bottle of Prosecco to celebrate the beginning of a great week. The Prosecco is a sparkling wine from Italy that is dry and not too sweet. This was a truly affordable way to enjoy a sparkling wine in your room. An Always5Star recommendation for all those luxury dinners, while still celebrating the moment!

You can have special treats delivered to the room as well. This can be arranged a head of time online. Perfect for wanting to surprise someone and make the stay a little more special!

I enjoyed coming back in the early evening and going to their bar for small bites and a drink. The bar menu was so good, in fact, that I ended up doing this most night of my stay (I stayed for five nights). The bar is quite large with plenty of comfortable seating. Several of my fellow conference members would get together and the bar was great for conversations as well. The music level was perfect and I wish all bars would have such ambiance!

A sample of the small bites I ordered – flat bread pizza and stuffed peppers. They were fabulous. Love the locally grown food as the freshness was very evident.

There were plenty of drinks on the menu. However, my favorites were the Prosecco and Bailey’s coffee (but not together!). After all, when you are in Ireland you must have the Bailey’s coffee, right?

I speak a lot about a great way to save on vacation is to enjoy a lighter dinner by eating in the bar or lounge. I have found that I can still have the Always5Star experience by choosing to enjoy appetizers and drinks at a luxury hotel or restaurant nearby. The food is always great and, during certain hours of the day, you can buy drinks for less (often called Happy Hour).
