Have you ever considered hosting a holiday girl’s night for you and your besties to enjoy together? Invite your girlfriends over for a holiday party and read on for our Always5Star contributor Linda Rosentrater’s 5 best fun & easy tips for a fantastic girls night in! With these tips, you will be keeping it classy and encouraging warmth, cheer, and elegance.
I hosted “A Girls Night In” recently for my daughter and her friends in my home. How would the young twenty-something ladies respond to my generation “old school” techniques for making quests feel special? I am excited to report that they loved it and have already made plans to have another one.

Find a card or board game that is about getting to know each other better. There are many out there, and these keep the ladies focused on a conversation, which prompts them to share their feelings, and have a thoughtful, exciting discussion. I found a game called Girl’s Night In at Marshall’s. It contained several simple card games which served wonderfully to encourage togetherness, smiles, laughter, all without making anyone uncomfortable. Think of the game as a means to an end, an ice breaker.
If you are not able to find this game, another alternative is this:

Have your party in the room with the most elegant decorations, comfortable seating, with soft pillows and furry blankets available to add to the cozy atmosphere. Have holiday music playing (I find that everyone, young and old, enjoys Frank Sinatra, or Michael Bublé Christmas Songs). Light some scented candles on the coffee table before they arrive.

Break out the silver and crystal! Everything tastes and looks better when it’s served on a silver platter or in a silver punch bowl! Using your best finery elevates the evening and helps to convey to your guests that they are worthy of your very best. Set a variety of nibbles on a silver tray and add a little porcelain figure in the corner for a touch of whimsy. To all, you gorgeous young women you can keep an eye out for collecting these timeless pieces. They last forever and never go out of style.

Serve delicious “Secret Holden Punch” from your punch bowl, using brandy snifters for an elegant, joyful cup of cheer! We all found this recipe to be delicious, and it really helped get the party going! I do not own brandy snifters, so I used some goblet-style wine glasses. You can watch Holly Holden’s video for details on making this. She prepares the punch with only 5 ingredients and shares how she adds a ring of ice with fruit in it to further decorate the punch. Here’s the recipe:
“Secret Holden Punch”
2 cups brandy
4 cups dark rum
1/2 glass peach brandy
1 cup of lemon juice
1/2 glass peach brandy
5 pounds ice

Use cloth napkins and cloth cocktail napkins for your guests. This little detail really adds a special touch of elegance. I learned about cocktail napkins from Holly Holden’s fantastic Mummy’s Monday Manners weekly e-newsletter. In an age of disposable items, these formal elements will not go unnoticed. These items can be purchased on eBay and often depict charming and fun themes. My daughter and her friends appreciated these!
In an age where it seems so often our gatherings are casual and informal, a classy girl’s night in can be a refreshing change of pace. Young ladies are often on a budget, and a girls’ night out can be expensive. This is a fantastic way to keep within your budget.
Final Thoughts:
Hospitality is a lovely art with which to familiarize yourself early and often. I feel special when someone welcomes me into their home. Because my daughter comes home every few months, I am quite sure we will have more of these girl’s nights in! Incorporating the season’s cues for inspiration regarding menu, music, and decor. I encourage you to employ these thoughtful touches all year long, and I assure you that you and your besties will have an Always5Star experience right in your home! Cheers!
